Angela Bartlett, Chairman, BABTAC/CIBTACI would encourage any beauty therapy student who has a passion and flair for facial electrical treatments to enter the SEBTA Awards. The organisers, Carlton Professional, make this a thoroughly enjoyable experience for the entrants and to be short-listed for the finals is a huge asset to have on your CV for career opportunities. The beauty therapy industry is so competitive, that taking part in a competition of this calibre will help to set you and your college apart from the others
Penny Turvey, Director, GMT TEC Ltd
The SEBTA competition offers a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate their exceptional knowledge and skills in electrotherapy facial treatments. Students taking part are top of their class and to be able to have this competition on their CV will show their future employers how highly skilled and motivated they are.
Sara Wilce, General Manager, Spa Division for Pecksniff’s
It was very refreshing to see students who had such a passion for their craft and who offer such a high level of customer service. It is wonderful to have a competition to celebrate electrotherapy, which is sometimes overlooked in the beauty industry, which gives students a focus to work towards and a very positive sense of achievement.
Gill Morris, Director, GMT TEC Ltd, www.gmtbeautytraining.co.uk
Taking students out of their normal college environment to compete against their peers in this prestigious competition gives them a tremendous advantage, future employers will be lucky to have them. You can see the students really fine tuning their skills as they learn from each other and from the judges’ feedback. Great for students, lectures and the industry. Well done Carlton!
Kay Judd, Overall Project Manager, Edutrust Academies Charitable Trust (E.A.C.T)
The SEBTA competition gives students an invaluable insight into the profession; they are required to work at the very highest standards and to commercial timeframes. The competition allows the student to evolve, to expand their knowledge, show case their skills and confirm to the judges and all those representing the industry that they are no longer simply students but professionals ready to make their mark!
Students Testimonials
Elisabeth Cox, Winner SEBTA 2010After all the hard work and preparation before the day of the competition, winning was such a great achievement for both me and my tutor, but also for the College as this is the first time that anyone had entered. Everyone at SEBTA is lovely and very supportive, which makes the day much more relaxed and takes the pressure off a bit! The whole experience is so well organised and in such a beautiful setting by the sea. I would definitely recommend entering this competition, as it gives recognition for all the effort and dedication put in while studying, and the prizes are amazing. I can't wait to use the machine!
Jessica McCabe, Sussex Coast College, Hastings
I would encourage all students to take part in SEBTA – apart from the chance of winning great prizes and the acknowledgement of your skills, it was a pleasure to be a part of: Charlie, Angela and all the staff from Carlton were extremely kind and friendly, and really looked after us, which went a long way to easing my nerves and making the whole experience an enjoyable one. I’m really pleased to have been chosen as a finalist for this competition. As Angela said, we are all winners for getting this far!
Stacey Darke, North Lindsey College
I would like to thank The Carlton Group for an amazing experience. As soon as we arrived, it felt as though I was already a winner. The whole set up was superb. It is definitely something that I would recommend any student entering. I don’t think it could be bettered.
Carol Pollard, Winner SEBTA 2009, Oxford & Cherwell Valley College (Banbury Campus)
This is a wonderful reward for all the hard work, studying and practicing done throughout the year and to have my skills acknowledged by the industry professionals on the judging panel was incredible. The calibre of the finalists was impressive. Everybody was so well groomed and professional, it was an honour to be in such company.
Olubukola Coker, SEBTA 2008 winner, City & Islington College
Winning the competition has certainly confirmed that determination, passion and hard work does produce results, sometimes beyond your expectations. You recognised my hard work and extra nights at college practising and carrying out the case studies. I am now carrying out Galvanic and High Frequency facials in my sleep…. I have clients at college wanting to be treated by "the therapist who won the award" ….It is a great honour to have Carlton acknowledge students who truly enjoy the profession. I thank you for this recognition.
Allison Drayton, Finalist SEBTA 2009, Fareham College
I was very excited about having the chance to enter this competition not only because of the great prizes on offer …but the opportunity it gave me to increase my learning of the skin and electrotherapy. Moreover, it also meant I finished my facial case study early. The great thing is that in being selected as a finalist, I’ve been rewarded for my hard work, giving me more confidence in my abilities as a skin care therapist and offering me, as self employed beauty therapist, a certain level of kudos amongst my competitors.
Lecturers Testimonials
Monica Walters, City & Islington CollegeIt was a thoroughly well organised competition, giving the student finalists a unique platform from which to embark on their future professional careers. I know for Iwona it was an exciting occasion; although she didn’t win, she was thrilled to have been given the opportunity to take part. Very well done to the team at Carlton for giving us an occasion to remember for a long time to come.
Val Wood, Oxford & Cherwell Valley College
Another splendidly organised competition with excellent hospitality shown by the whole of the Carlton Professional team. Although my student was understandably nervous she thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience of showing off her skills, meeting some lovely new people and having a great time in Brighton. Being one of the finalists in the SEBTA competition makes a really prestigious addition to her CV.
Donna Bird, Burton College
Thank you to everyone at SEBTA. I loved being invited down to Brighton the night before; a beautiful setting in a beautiful hotel over looking the sea; where all learners and college lecturers were able to meet and get to know one another. I felt this really made a difference, put the learners at ease and added to the whole experience. The competition is highly regarded within the beauty industry and such an experience for staff and learners to be a part of. In additional to the whole event, there are the very generous prizes for the Learner, college and lecturer.
Hazel Wheatley, North Lindsey College
This is the first year we have entered this competition and were fortunate to be selected for the final in Brighton. We were made to feel very welcome and treated to a fabulous meal the night before the competition. We felt like we had won even before the competition had started! On the day of the final, the competitors and clients thoroughly enjoyed the experience. When the results were announced we were delighted to achieve second place and extremely proud to be part of this industry. We received some fantastic prizes for the college and student. I would definitely recommend this competition and we will be entering again next year!
Emma Hartup, Sussex Downs College - Lewes Campus, Co-ordinator NVQ Level 3 and Part-Time Beauty Courses
SEBTA is a truly professional, inspiring and friendly competition. The case study is an excellent idea as the student can develop and grow in confidence and ability throughout the treatments. The student can also see the improvements over time which cannot be appreciated at college as the assessment process demands only one occasion for competence.
Philippa Driscoll, Northbrook College Sussex, Beauty Therapy Course Co-ordinator
This competition is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the skills the students have learnt at Level 3. It improves their skills and their confidence to prepare them for Industry.I would highly recommend students to participate in this event. As a college, we look forward to entering again next year.
Annette O’Connor, Lecturer in Senior Beauty Therapy, South Staffordshire College. Cannock Campus
What was really beneficial was the fact that the students did not have to do anything extra to enter the competition, just complete their case study for the facial electrical unit requirement for their Level 3 qualifications. In fact, the students were pleased that it made them focus on it early in the year…. I have already told the new level 3 students all about it and I want as many as possible to enter as it.
